We were commissioned to handle the architectural and interior design for “Kasuga Mochi Cafe,” a new venture by Abiko Mochi Honpo Co., Ltd., a company with over 80 years of history. Aiming to create an open atmosphere that welcomes everyone regardless of age or gender, we used white as the base color for both the building’s exterior and interior to convey a sense of cleanliness and freshness. We incorporated wood-grain brown as an accent, along with light green—a color that evokes Japanese tea—to reflect the café’s focus on traditional Japanese sweets. As a store rooted in a historic neighborhood, we designed it to serve as an “icon” for the town. We used white as the base color across all floors, combining it with light green, coral orange, and brown as accents. While seemingly simple, the design creates a light, pop-inspired atmosphere that evokes traditional Japanese sweets. All custom-built furniture was designed and crafted in-house, ensuring that the “Kasuga Mochi Cafe” aesthetic is consistently expressed throughout the entire space. Taking into account the diverse range of visitors, the interior layout is straightforward and clear. While the floors are not particularly spacious, we avoided simply increasing the number of seats. Instead, we meticulously calculated the width of aisles, sightlines, and waiting areas to ensure customer pathways intersect as little as possible. This layout minimizes the feeling of crowding while providing a relaxing and comfortable experience for guests.
創業80余年の歴史を持つあびこ餅本舗株式会社が新しい業態としてはじめる“和菓子カフェ『かすが餅cafe』の建築設計及びインテリアデザインを手掛けさせて頂きました。世代や性別を問わず誰もが立ち寄りやすい開放感を目指し、建物の外観・インテリアともに清潔感と爽やかさのあるホワイトをベースカラーとし、アクセントには木目のブラウン、和菓子カフェという点から日本茶を想起させるライトグリーンなどを配しました。歴史ある地域に根ざす店舗として、街の“アイコン”となるべくデザインしました。各フロア共通でホワイトをベースカラーとし、ライトグリーン、コーラルオレンジ、ブラウンをアクセントとして掛け合わせました。いっけんシンプルでありながらも、和菓子を想起させる軽やかなポップ感を演出しています。造作家具はすべてオリジナルで設計・制作し、「かすが餅cafe」の世界観を空間全体で一貫して表現しています。来店者層の幅広さに配慮し、内部は単純明快にレイアウトしました。各フロアは決して広くはありませんが、席数をむやみに増やさず、通路の抜け・視線の抜け・待機位置などを緻密に計算し、お客様の動線が極力交差しないようにレイアウトとすることで、密度感を抑えつつ、ゆったりと寛げる滞在体験を実現しています。
